On 25 April 2025, the Malaysian government announced it will cancel visa requirements for Kosovans with a 30-day visa exemption program. The move allows citizens from Kosovo to travel to Malaysia for stays of up to 30 days without the formality of applying for a visa.
This news coincides with the opening of a new Kosovan embassy set to take place the following week. The Kosovan embassy in Kuala Lumpur will provide consular assistance to Kosovans in Malaysia and provide closer diplomatic ties between the Malay and Kosovan governments.
Speaking of the announcement, Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani said, “This important step, combined with the forthcoming opening of our embassy in Kuala Lumpur during my visit next week, is a clear sign that ties between our two countries are growing stronger by the day.”
She went on to extend her thanks to the Malaysian authorities for the impactful decision and expressed her desire to continue working together and deepening their fledgling relationship.
Eligible Kosovans will now be able to travel to Malaysia for short trips without applying for a tourist or transit visa and the visa exemption is expected to boost tourist numbers to the Southeast Asia country while improving bilateral relations.
